Los Angeles, CA · Full-Time, On-Site · Reports to Principal & Partner · FLSA Exempt · 7+ years experience
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a hands-on creative and project leadership role for a designer who moves fluently between inspired design work and operational rigor. You’ll collaborate closely with the Principal, Partner, and the full design team — owning projects from Concept and Planning through Design Development, Procurement, and Installation — while independently driving key phases and mentoring junior designers. Equal parts visionary and executor.
DESIGN — WHAT YOU’LL OWN
01 Lead design tasks across programming, space planning, concept development, design development, FF&E selection and procurement, and custom millwork and furniture drawings.
02 Prepare, coordinate, and maintain interior construction documentation in collaboration with internal CAD drafters; prepare and maintain finish/plumbing/appliance/hardware/lighting and window treatment schedules, and digital material boards for construction.
03 Source and curate high-end interior finishes, fabrics, furniture, plumbing, appliances, hardware, and decorative fixtures that reflect the firm’s distinctive aesthetic.
04 Develop and present compelling InDesign architectural and furniture concept boards that communicate a clear and cohesive design narrative.
05 Collaborate with the Principal and Partner to build finish and fabric palettes and furniture selections that accurately reflect the AE+A aesthetic.
06 Design and detail custom furniture pieces, coordinating directly with fabricators to ensure precision and quality.
07 Review strike-offs for interior finish materials and shop drawings for cabinetry, stone, shower enclosures, and doors and windows.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT — WHAT YOU’LL OWN
01 Support an internal design team of Intermediate and Junior Designers, and liaise with architects, consultants, and contractors to ensure drawings are coordinated and design intent is upheld throughout.
02 Manage vendors through all stages of the quote process, bidding, project management, and installation — including on-site supervision and shop visits.
03 Create, delegate, and oversee project tasks using Asana, maintaining clear timelines and accountability across the team.
04 Maintain quality control through finished construction, furniture completion, contractor punch lists, and follow-through to final installation.
05 Collaborate with the Principal, Partner, and Design Team during installations and editorial photo shoots.
PROCUREMENT — WHAT YOU’LL OWN
01 Prepare, develop, and maintain detailed furniture budgets, tracking variances and proactively communicating changes to the team.
02 Obtain competitive quotes and prepare comprehensive specifications for furniture, lighting, accessories, and artwork.
03 Coordinate with the purchasing department for client proposal submittals and order expediting across concurrent projects.
04 Communicate and collaborate with clients, vendors, general contractors, sub-contractors, consultants, furniture dealers, and fabricators to meet project objectives.
