JOB DESCRIPTION

Our creative, award-winning team, specializing in high-end residential design, is seeking a paid Intern who values punctuality, eagerness to learn, proactivity, and hands-on experience in the interior design profession. Students and recent graduates who are enrolled in or have completed an interior design or architecture program are invited to apply. This internship provides an opportunity to learn and grow in a professional environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in office operations.
  • Assist Principal, Partner, Interior Designers, and Studio Manager.
  • Assist the Design Assistant and Studio Manager in building, maintaining, and organizing the resource library. This includes coordinating the return of samples and materials to vendors.
  • Assist in sourcing and obtaining materials, samples, and products for design presentations.
  • Travel to the PDC, job sites, and various vendors to select materials and pick up items for the design teams (NOTE: A personal vehicle is required for travel, and you will be reimbursed for any mileage to and from PDC or other vendors).
  • Work with designers on drafting in AutoCAD, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Work with designers in SketchUp and 3D modeling.
  • Work with designers on architectural and FF&E palettes.
  • Be timely and communicative regarding issues, tasks, and deadlines.
  • Ensure priorities remain on track and are adjusted appropriately.
  • Inform the team of progress achieved toward goals and potential project conflicts or emerging issues.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks. This includes collecting mail from the PO Box, maintaining office tidiness (i.e., trash, recycling, and compost), updating spreadsheets, organizing office supplies and pick-ups, shipping, and drop-offs for general packages and miscellaneous items.
  • Utilize Asana to complete assigned project tasks.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
  • Be timely and communicative regarding issues, tasks, and deadlines.
  • Ensure expectations remain on track and are adjusted as needed.
  • Inform the team of the progress achieved toward goals and any potential project conflicts or emerging issues.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

AE+A is an evolving, fast-paced organization that relies on team members to bring expertise within their field and contribute to the sterling reputation the company has earned over the past 20+ years. This requires engagement, independent workload management, and voicing concerns as they arise.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • 0-2 years of interior design experience
  • Education or bachelor’s or master’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field.
  • Must be available to work on-site 3-4 days a week
  • Must own a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and be willing to drive for design or administrative errands (NOTE: The intern will be reimbursed for mileage)

The Interior Design Intern must possess a diverse range of knowledge and skills, including:

  • Excellent technical skills using AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Sketchup, and 3D modeling.
  • Working knowledge of construction documents.
  • Ability to read redlined documents & revise design files.
  • Advanced written skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation
  • Excellent communication skills in person, over the phone, and through email.
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems, take initiative, and work independently.

The Interior Design Intern must be able to work in the following environment and perform with these physical demands:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position primarily operates in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and other office machines. However, it will occasionally require visits to client offices or job sites where we cannot control the environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is primarily a sedentary role; however, the ability to move throughout the office and visit client offices or job sites is a requirement.

ADDITIONAL TASKS AS REQUESTED:

As is the nature of a small company environment, staff may occasionally be asked to take on additional tasks beyond their job description. This may be done for a few reasons:

  • To fill a light workload
  • To help fulfill an upcoming deadline
  • For staff members’ professional growth

When filling a light workload or helping to meet an upcoming deadline, the staff member may be asked to take on work considered parallel or lower than their current pay grade.

When fulfilling staff members’ professional growth goals or tasks, it may be considered above their pay grade to help them acquire additional skills. This is considered training and will be well supported by superiors.

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

  • Pay Rate: $18.00/hr
  • Hours: 24 hours per week/Part Time
WORK HOURS:

Your work hours will be Monday through Wednesday or Tuesday through Thursday, from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, 24 hours per week, and will be considered part-time.

There is a mandatory 30-minute unpaid lunch break, which you must take before the fifth hour of work begins (it must start before 2:30 pm). You are entitled to take two paid 10-minute breaks each 8-hour day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. If you work on a pre-approved Friday, you are entitled to one paid 10-minute break. No overtime will be permitted without approval.

AT-WILL EMPLOYMENT:

Your employment and compensation with Annette English + Associates are “at will” in that they can be terminated with or without cause, and with or without notice, at any time, at the option of either Annette English + Associates or yourself, except as otherwise provided by law.
